How I Overcame Bullying

How did I overcome it ? Well, when I was in year 4 at my primary school I moved schools because of bullying. I moved to a more local school and then I got involved in the School Council. Not only that but I helped and got involved in a Peer Support scheme. This is a system which is set up for pupils at school who come and talk to other pupils of their own age about their problems. It is all confidential which means that it isn’t mentioned unless it is something such as abuse at home or something along those lines. In the School Council I got the chance to travel to the YMCA in Leicestershire and attend some workshops. In these workshops we got the chance to make our ideal bully and what we thought a bully looked like. We also did some pieces of drama about bullying.I put my name down to attend another workshop and conference like the one I had taken part in. I was then selected along with others to be part of a Leicestershire Youth group and to carry on with the Anti Bullying work. After that I went to a Headteacher’s conference in Nottingham and told them all what we thought and how they can help us. I then attended other conferences and met Director’s of Education, Mayors and many others. After all of the meetings and conferences that I had attended I then became part of the L.A.S.T team which stands for Leicestershire Anti-Bullying Student Team. It was then that we started to win awards. So far I have won the Princess Diana Anti-Bullying Memorial Award, B.T Seen and Heard 3 award, Leicester City Football Clubs Children of Excellence of which I got the opportunity to meet Deon Dublin ,Wavemakers award and I have also won The Champions of Respect Award along with a prize of £500. I have been presented the Diana Award by Esther Rantzen and The Champions of Respect Award by the Arch Bishop of Canterbury. To receive both the Champions of Respect Award and the Diana award I travelled to London. The most recent things that I have done is appeared on the Sharon Osbourne Show and met Sharon. Due to the website and all of the hard work that I had been doing she gave me the chance to meet and interview Mr. David Beckham and train with him. Please take a look at the 'Abs Kids in the news' page and look at the photos that were taken from both occasions. Hopefully you will now have a clear understanding of why I am here, how I got here and how hard I have worked for this.
